fashion Extravaganza, one of the events of the Jubilee Festival, featured its first set of fashions from Guyanese designers at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown on Thursday.Among the audience was Minister of Telecommunications with responsibility for Tourism, Cathy Hughes. Courtney Noel kicked off the show with his melodious voice belting his song “Arrowhead”. The first designer to display his gorgeous pieces, accessorised with handmade jewellery, on 13 female and 2 male models, was Sydney Francois.Also walking the catwalk were the delegates of the Miss World Guyana Pageant: Divya Yabindranauth (Region One Ambassador); Najuma Nelson (Region Two Ambassador); Marva Langevine (Region Three Ambassador); Ariella Basdeo (Region Four Ambassador); Ashmini Ramnauth (Region Five Ambassador); Treasure James (Region Seven Ambassador), and Nurriyah Gerrard (Region Eight Ambassador).Sharon Gittens, who has established herself as a creative designer in her seven years in the field, displayed nine unique and stunning pieces which showcased her love of colour.One of the outfits displayed during the Fashion ExtravaganzaThe next designer described as a woman who marvelled at her country and was recognised locally as well as internationally, Natasha Calderia exhibited 16 beautiful fabric creations, which held the admiration of the spectators.With a magnificent blend of cultural and modern designs, under the theme “Bring back our culture”, 13 models “wowed” the crowd as they strutted along the runway wearing patterns by Jason Shurland.Amrita Daniels’ Africa-inspired designs also captured the attention of the audience with 13 pieces for females and 3 for males.During the intermission, Roy “Sweet Sax” Stuart set a relaxing tone for members of the audience with his saxophone melodies. However, excitement wiggled through the crowd when Walter Gary, the show producer for the Miss World Guyana 2016, revealed that a free ticket to the pageant was up for grabs as it was hidden under the seat of someone in the audience.When the fashion show resumed, Rishma Persaud exhibited a range of 10 elegant evening dresses under the theme “Traditional meets modern”, which captivated viewers.Marcia DaSantos’ 13 stylish and “one of a kind” designs brought the runway segment to a close. But, not before requests from the audience to meet the talented designers.The Fashion Extravaganza, which is a three-day event, will continue on Saturday and Sunday at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, starting at 17:00h.
